Urla’s north coast faces the Gulf of Izmir and is generally known for its calm sea, small coves and fish restaurants. In this article we describe the three stops on the north coast and how to combine them in a single day by the sea.
Urla İskele
İskele, just north of Urla town centre, is the liveliest spot on the coast, with its seafront promenade, fishing boats and restaurants. Karantina Adası (Quarantine Island) just offshore and the nearby ancient city of Klazomenai are a good choice for anyone who wants to add a cultural stop to a seaside break. It is also one of the most popular places to watch the sunset in the early evening.
Özbek
Özbek appeals to those who want to get away from the crowds, with its quieter coves and simple coastline. It is very peaceful on weekdays and at the start and end of the season. Facilities and services on the shore can vary with the season, so it is worth checking the current situation before you go.
Çeşmealtı
Çeşmealtı is known for its fishing harbour and the restaurants along the shore. It is a frequent choice as a lunch or dinner stop for those who want to combine the sea with a good meal.
Three stops in one day: a sample itinerary
| Time | Stop |
|---|---|
| 10:00 | A quiet morning by the sea at Özbek |
| 13:30 | Lunch at Çeşmealtı |
| 16:00 | A stroll at İskele, around Karantina Adası |
| 19:00 | Sunset and return |
Why a private vehicle?
In the summer season, finding parking on the coastal roads and outside restaurants gets harder. Rather than parking again at each of three different points during the day, moving from stop to stop with a chauffeur-driven vehicle keeps the pace of the day. For larger groups, having everyone travel together in one vehicle with all the beach gear is also a great convenience.
If you would also like to add the south coast
The coves on the south coast, such as Demircili and Altınköy, offer a different landscape. You can combine the two coasts in one day, but for a calmer pace we recommend planning two separate half days.
